[*] Some people believe that public education plays an important role in a society. However, others think that private schools are better choice for children’s education. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

A1: Public education
A2: Private education

不对立 – 可以共存 – 分类讨论

Education has been a heated discussion topic in society for centuries. Diverse opinions on the advantages of public and private schools are held. As far as I am concerned, both kinds of school are irreplaceable due to their unparallel features.

It is undeniable that public education has played an essential role in the educational system as they are the most accessible educational institutions for school-age students. Public schools are usually funded by the government, which means that tuitions fees and other school-related costs would be much less than studying in a private school. Because of this, a larger number of families can afford to send their children to school with the less financial burden, and more children can have access to appropriate education, thus improving the level of literacy of the whole society.

On the other hand, private schools can offer uncomparable benefits that public schools might not be able to provide. Although private schools are also under the guidance of the national curriculum, they can have more flexibility to make adjustments to include their students’ learning needs compared to public schools. Additionally, as most of the private schools require high tuition fees, they can provide more resources and support for students to explore and experiment, which helps to stimulate learning interests and realize children’s potential in different areas.

From my perspective, public schools and private schools both have their unique places in our educational system. Public schools are set up to face the mainstreamed families, improving the academic level in the society as a whole, while public schools can offer more flexible and inclusive teaching practices to meet diverse learning needs as they have more funds from the families.

Task 1:
The line graph illustrates the energy consumption level in the U.S. since 1980 with a prediction of that until 2030.

It is projected that Petrol and Oil will continue to be the dominant fuel throughout the discussed period. Nuclear, Solar/Wind and Hydropower will still be the minor contributor to energy consumption.

In 1980, 35 quadrillion units of Petrol and Oil was consumed, and the figure dropped to about 30 quadrillion units in the following five years. After that, it showed an upward trend and is believed to reach approximate 50 quadrillions in 2030. The consumption of Coal experienced a similar trend, starting from around 17 quadrillion units with a continuous rise and overtaking natural gas in 2015, which makes it the second biggest consumptive fuel afterwards. It is believed that it will maintain its rise and reach 25 quadrillion units in 2030. Comparatively, the consumption level of Natural gas was stable, fluctuating between 20 and 25 quadrillion units since 1980, and it is predicted to remain the same consumption level as that in 2020 afterwards. Nuclear, Solar/Wind and Hydropower were the least consumed, with the same quantity, 3 quadrillion units, used in 1980. Although it is believed that Nuclear and Solar/Wind may contribute more in the future, they will still play an insignificant role in energy consumption in the U.S..
