People hold different views as to whether drawing and painting is helpful to children or not. In my opinion, drawing and painting certainly brings benefit and it is a good way to promote children’s identity.
On the one hand, many think that it is better for children to learn drawing and painting because this will allow them to pursue new knowledge in different subject areas and explore the experience of different fields of study. Most children are not mature enough to decide what they truly like at such a young age. Therefore, it is essential to let them learn drawing and painting and give them the opportunity to figure out what they are interested in and find their passion. In this case, they are more likely to get to know themselves, being able to identify their own strengths and weakness and eventually positively affects children’s formation of self-identity.
On the other hand, drawing and painting is a waste of time for children. The precious time that can be spent doing something meaningful for children such as doing their homework and studying for their tests is wasted. Drawing and painting skills are rarely being considered as one of the most important factors in college admission, which means that for the majority of children, spending time to draw and paint is useless. If children are only being exposed to the area of study that they need for tests or exams, it is much easier for them to focus and concentrate.
In conclusion, it might seem that drawing and painting waste children’s time and is not as useful as other subject when they apply to colleges and university. However, drawing and painting can play a big role in helping to raise well-rounded children and to develop children’s identity.
